The placenta is a remarkable organ. It provides nourishment, protection, and comfort to our babies while growing inside our wombs. Your placenta, created by your body to sustain your baby during pregnancy, becomes the perfect “nourishment” to help you after childbirth. It is believed that ingesting placenta can help reduce or eliminate the baby blues, and may reduce the risk of postpartum depression.
I am a Certified Placenta Encapsulation Specialist through Placenta Benefits (PBi). PBi is the oldest, largest and most recognized placenta encapsulation organization in the world. It was established by Jodi Selander in 2006 after doing research on the consumption of placenta and its many benefits to women during the postpartum time. The PBi placenta encapsulation course included both theoretical and practical training that has taught me to do encapsulation as well as educate mothers on the benefits of placenta consumption.
It takes about 12-15 hours to process the placenta. It is ideal to start the processing within 72 hours of the birth of the placenta in order to take full advantage of its benefits. The placenta can be refrigerated during this time or set on ice in a cooler. If left longer than 72 hours then it is best to put it in two ziplock bags and put in the freezer. You can choose to have me come to your home to process the placenta, I can pick it up and drop off the capsules from your home or the hospital, or you can drop it off and pick it up from my home.
I use the Traditional Chinese Medicine method of encapsulating a placenta. I wash the placenta, steam it with ginger, lemon and pepper corns (please let me know if you have allergies to any of these), thinly slice it, dehydrate it, grind it up, and put it into capsules. I have my level 1 food safe certificate and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Certificate.

Placenta Encapsulation: $175 in the Nanaimo area and $25 for each additional 15 minutes driving time (Parksville/Ladysmith $200, Qualicum Beach/Chemainus $225). Or $150 if you drop off and pick up your placenta.
My fees for placenta encapsulation include:
• Pick up placenta within 12 hours of your call and drop off of capsules to you
• Traditional Chinese Method of preparing and encapsulating your placenta (50-150+ capsules)
• A sachet with the dehydrated umbilical cord in a heart shape for keepsake or burial
• Placenta broth (optional)
• Placenta print (optional)
